Poisonous fish

The gonads, liver and intestines of some fish are highly toxic, for example, the puffer fish. Several incidents of red whelk poisoning have been recorded in the UK, due to poison present in the salivary glands of these whelks. Symptoms include tingling of the fingers, disturbance or vision, paralysis, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and prostration.
