If the freezer breaks down or food becomes thawed, for example, due to a power cut failure, the food may occasionally be treated as fresh. In certain circumstances the food may be cooked or re frozen. If the food has a solid core of ice it may be safe to refreeze with out cooking. If in doubt advice should be obtained from the local Environmental Health Department. In the event of breakdown, the lid of the freezer should be left closed and the unit covered in newspapers and blankets until repaired. Food may remain frozen for at least two days in a well-stocked, well-insulated freezer.
